How it works
Stops climb-out escapes
Cats escape by climbing to the top edge and pulling over. Our 60cm inward overhang creates a wide inward “ceiling” that blocks that final move, they can’t get the leverage to climb past it.
Adds height to stop jump-outs
Jumping is the other escape route. The brackets lift a typical UK fence up to ~2.0m, so simple jump-outs aren’t a route anymore for most cats.
Wooden fences
Works cleanly on standard timber posts/panels, you screw the brackets straight into the wood and work your way around the boundary.
Cement & Brick fences
On concrete posts (and other masonry), you drill a small pilot hole and use the concrete plugs provided, then fix the brackets as normal.

Cat fence FAQ (UK)
Do I need planning permission for a cat fence in the UK?
Do I need planning permission for a cat fence in the UK?
In England, the simple rule is: over 2.0m (most boundaries) = planning permission, and over 1.0m next to a highway/footpath of a highway = planning permission. Scotland/Wales/NI have different systems, so don’t assume England rules copy across.
Is Safe Whiskers designed to stay within the 2.0m limit?
Is Safe Whiskers designed to stay within the 2.0m limit?
Yes, it’s designed so most installs stay around the 2.0m boundary height that typically avoids planning permission issues in many rear-garden situations.
Will it work on my fence type?
Will it work on my fence type?
It’s built for common UK boundaries. Timber posts/panels are straightforward; concrete posts need a pilot hole, and the concrete plugs are provided.
How high does it need to be to work?
How high does it need to be to work?
The system’s “height advantage” is designed around bringing a typical 1.83m fence up to ~2.0m, alongside the inward overhang doing the real containment work at the top edge.
Can cats climb or jump out?
Can cats climb or jump out?
Climbers hit the top edge, and the 60cm inward overhang creates a proven “ceiling” that’s too wide to bridge. Jump-outs are reduced because the bracket lifts the boundary to ~2.0m, and you note most cats jump around 1.5m–1.8m.
How hard is the DIY install if I’m not very handy?
How hard is the DIY install if I’m not very handy?
The install is designed to be DIY-friendly rather than specialist. Timber fences are usually the simplest option and need basic DIY tools such as a 10mm spanner, screwdriver or drill, and stapler. Concrete posts need a small pilot hole, so a drill with a suitable masonry bit is recommended. Having two people will make the job smoother, especially when handling the mesh.
Can I install it on my own?
Can I install it on my own?
Many customers fit the system themselves, but we recommend having two people where possible. A second pair of hands makes it easier to hold the mesh, line up the brackets, and work around corners or longer fence runs. It is still a DIY-friendly install.
How long does installation take?
How long does installation take?
Once you’re set up, each bracket typically takes around 5–10 minutes. Smaller UK gardens can often be completed in an afternoon, while larger perimeters will naturally take longer. Having two people and the right basic tools usually makes the process quicker and easier.
What’s included in the kit?

If the system is properly installed and your cat can still escape, you’re eligible for a full refund for up to 90 days (it’s there so your cat has time to properly test it).
